Top 12 Events of China Internet Industry in 2014 released

On January 6, the Fifth Annual Conference of China Internet Industry (2015) was convened in Beijing. At the conference, Internet Society of China (ISC) released the top 12 remarkable events in China Internet industry.

1.In February 2014, Office of the Central Leading Group for Cyberspace Affairs established. President XI Jinping assumed as the group leader, demonstrating that China’s resolution in maintaining cyber security, national interest and driving informatization process. President XI Jinping pointed out that with no cyber security, there will be no national security and with no informatization, there will be no modernization.

2.“Purifying online environment” campaign launched. Since April 2014, Internet administrative agencies launched series of campaigns to purify online environment. Also, lots of rules and regulations have been passed to protect Netizens’ rights and interests, regulate online behavior and govern the Internet by law.

3.China witnessed its 20thanniversary of full function access to the Internet. At the current stage, China has built the largest 4G network in the world and has the largest user base. China has become a significant force in global Internet structure.

4.“Broadband China” strategy implementation process accelerated. In May 2014, 14 Ministries jointly released Comments on implementing “Broadband China” Strategy Specific Project to accelerate the implementation process. 39 cities have been selected as “Broadband China” demonstration cities and “Broadband Rural Area” pilot project speeded up. 4G network construction was boosted and it is estimated that the number of user may attain 90 million, the number of base station may reach 700 thousand and the information consumption volume may attain 2,800 billion.

5.The convergence of traditional and emerging media accelerated. In August 2014, China Central Deepening Reform Leading Group clarified the media reform and development direction from the height of development strategy. It is widely appreciated in the media circle to accelerate the in-depth convergence of traditional and emerging media based on advanced technology and content construction.

6.China Internet companies step up towards globalization. In September 2014, Alibaba was listed at the New York Stock Exchange, becoming the second largest Internet company in the world. In 2014, Weibo, Jumei.com and JD.com were listed in US one after another, driving China Internet companies’ listing aspiration. China Internet companies have made great progress in value creation, business model innovation and industry pattern improvement etc.

7.The first session of World Internet Conference (WIC) convened in November 2014. With the theme of “An Interconnected World Shared and Governed by All”, this conference was an international conference with the largest scale and of the highest level that China has ever held.

8.Cyber and information security has been highly valued. In November 2014, China’s first Cyber Security Awareness Week was launched in Beijing to expand the knowledge of cyber security and improve skills in network safety. The relevant government agencies jointly promoted the construction of China’s network and information security system from the aspects of decision-making, technique guarantee and publicity etc.

9.The management policy of Internet surfing services updated. In November 2014, combined with State Administration for Industry & Commerce, MIIT, Ministry of Public Security, and Ministry of Culture improved and adjusted the management policy of Internet surfing services, creating a market environment for fare competition and survival of the fittest.

10.Industrial Internet era is coming and China manufacturing industry transition accelerated. In December 2014, MIIT proposed to focus on intellectual manufacturing, develop new-generation information technology and emerging industries, and to improve intellectualized application of manufactured goods, equipments, producing, management and services. ISC established Industrial Application Working Committee, SME’s Service Working Committee and Innovation Entrepreneurship Base and Industrial Internet Practice Park etc., so as to promote the networking and intellectualization transition of industrial manufacture, drive industrial cooperation and improve industrial environment.

11.Innovation and startup thrived and became the pulse of driving economy prosperity. In December 2014, the State Council deployed the new policies to promote innovation and startups. With the theme of “Create infinite chances”, ISC successfully held the 13th China Internet Conference, which was a platform for Internet economy growth, innovation and startups.

12.Internet finance sprung up. In 2014, Internet finance witnessed booming development. Internet financial products bloomed in the fields of banking, fund, bill and insurance etc. along with the acceleration of Internet finance products and services innovation and the improvement of people’s financial management demands, the attentions altered to the business regulated management and the market competition became more and more healthy.
